Expert Home Services by Tennessee Adoption Home Study Services

1. Choose a Licensed Home Study Provider

Begin by selecting a licensed child-placing agency or home study provider in Tennessee. (We hope you decide to choose us.) The provider must be authorized to conduct adoption home studies in the state of Tennessee.

2. Submit Required Documentation

Gather and submit essential documents, which may include:

  • Birth certificates and marriage licenses
  • Financial statements
  • Physician’s health reports
  • Background checks and fingerprinting
  • Reference letters from non-relatives

3. Complete Interviews

We will conduct interviews with all household members. These interviews assess your motivation to adopt, parenting philosophy, and family dynamics.

4. Home Inspection

We will visit your home to ensure it meets safety and space requirements. This includes checking for working smoke detectors, safe storage of medications, and general cleanliness. This is usually completed at the same time as the interviews.

5. Attend TN-KEY Training (if applicable)

If adopting through the Department of Children’s Services (DCS), you may be required to complete Tennessee KEY training. This program covers trauma-informed care, communication styles, and parenting strategies.

6. Final Evaluation and Report

Our team compiles all findings into a formal home study report. This includes a summary of your background, lifestyle, parenting readiness, and home environment.

7. Home Study Approval

Once the report is reviewed and approved, you are officially eligible to adopt. The home study is typically valid for one year and may need updates if circumstances change.

8. Completion & Post-Placement Visits

After placement, we will conduct a series of post-placement visits to ensure the child is adjusting well and the home remains safe and supportive. These visits typically occur once per quarter until the adoption is finalized. We will observe family interactions, offer guidance, and may recommend helpful resources. This step is essential for confirming the well-being of the child and preparing for the finalization hearing in court
